Revolut for travel: when is a paid plan worthwhile?

Official product photo of the Revolut Premium card

Revolut combines a debit card and account with currency exchange, cash withdrawals and optional travel benefits. The right plan depends on how often you travel, how much cash you need and which extras you will actually use.

Which plan fits?

Standard is a sensible starting point for occasional trips. It has no monthly plan fee, but limits on fee-free exchange and withdrawals apply. Plus raises the exchange allowance. Premium removes Revolut’s additional fair-use and weekend exchange charges and includes travel insurance and discounted lounge passes. Metal increases the cash allowance and adds travel insurance and discounted lounge passes. Ultra adds lounge access and more extensive benefits at a much higher monthly price.

Paid plans may also include partner subscriptions and RevPoints. Count a subscription as a benefit only if you would otherwise pay for it and can actually use it. RevPoints are rewards for eligible spending, not cash with a fixed value.

Dutch prices and cash allowances

PlanMonthly paymentAnnual paymentCash withdrawals without a Revolut fee
StandardFreeFree€200 or 5 withdrawals
Plus€3.99€40€200
Premium€10.99€110€400
Metal€19.99€195€800
Ultra€65€650€2,000

These are the Dutch fees, checked on 3 October 2026. Monthly and annual billing are separate payment options. Cash allowances apply per rolling month; Standard reaches its limit at €200 or five withdrawals, whichever comes first. Beyond the allowance, the fee is 2%, with a €1 minimum per withdrawal. ATM operators may charge separately.

What matters abroad?

Standard has a monthly exchange allowance and a weekend markup; Plus has a higher allowance and a lower markup. Premium, Metal and Ultra avoid those additional Revolut exchange charges. The rate shown before you confirm a transaction still matters. Check the exchange rules for your plan.

All plans have a monthly cash withdrawal allowance. Beyond it Revolut charges a fee, and an ATM owner can charge separately. Choose the local currency at the ATM instead of accepting its conversion. Revolut explains the withdrawal rules. Take a backup card: a hotel or car rental company may require a credit card for its deposit and may decline a debit card.

Travel insurance requires payment with Revolut

Standard and Plus do not include travel insurance. Premium and Metal cover eligible leisure trips lasting up to 30 days; Ultra covers up to 90 days and also eligible business trips. Upgrading just before departure does not automatically insure a holiday booked earlier.

Your plan must remain active without interruption from booking. Pay for accommodation and the main commercial or public transport to and from your destination with that Revolut account and retain payment evidence. The transport-payment requirement does not apply to your own car. Trips start and end at home; pre-existing medical conditions are excluded.

Travelling for more than 30 days with Premium or Metal, or more than 90 days with Ultra? The policy excludes trips exceeding that limit, while the help page describes cover for the first 30 or 90 days. Do not rely on partial cover for a longer trip. Before departure, obtain written confirmation from the insurer or arrange insurance covering the entire trip.

Monthly billing is not a standalone monthly subscription

The paid plan renews annually even when billed monthly. Early cancellation can incur an extra month’s fee. After the first 14 days, an annual payment is not partly refunded during the first subscription year. A single short holiday therefore offers a weak reason to upgrade on its own.

Our advice

Start with Standard if you travel a few times a year. Upgrade only when the exchange and withdrawal allowances plus benefits you will use justify the plan fee. We show the official sign-up route; personal referral links are excluded. Plan benefits checked on 28 September 2026; fees, exchange and cash allowances, the insurance conditions described above and the subscription term rechecked on 3 October 2026.
