Flying Blue Amex cards

Traveler at an airport with a KLM aircraft

Flying Blue American Express cards earn Miles on spending and award XP each year. Miles can be redeemed; XP count towards Flying Blue status. Gold awards 30 XP annually and Platinum 60 XP. The earlier direct offer with one-off extra XP ended on 30 September 2026 and no longer applies.

Which application route is better now? For both cards, the invitation offers more Miles and the same XP as the direct route. Gold: 5,000 Miles and 30 annual XP direct, versus 25,000 Miles and 30 annual XP through the invitation. Platinum: 10,000 Miles and 60 annual XP direct, versus 70,000 Miles and 60 annual XP through the invitation. None of these current offers includes one-off extra XP.

The invitation opens on Flying Blue Gold. Select “View all cards” for Flying Blue Platinum. The bonus is awarded in two parts, in month 7 and month 13, provided you make at least one €1 purchase in every preceding month. The card must remain active and you must not have held an Amex card, including a supplementary card, in the previous 12 months. The referrer may receive a reward.

Which card works after the welcome offer?

Gold costs €198 a year and is the cheaper choice for earning Miles and receiving 30 annual XP. Platinum costs €660 a year and offers 60 XP, a higher Miles earning rate and additional card benefits. Choose Platinum when those additional annual XP and benefits suit your travel habits; the welcome bonus alone is no reason to keep the card for years.

One-off bonus XP do not recur annually; the current direct and referral offers include no extra XP beyond the cards’ 30 or 60 annual XP. Read the full Flying Blue Amex guide → for Miles, XP, insurance and a recommendation.
