Royal Jordanian status match: how to apply from the Netherlands

Have Flying Blue Gold, Platinum or Ultimate and planning to fly with British Airways, Finnair or Qatar Airways? Royal Jordanian’s paid status match can give you twelve months of Gold Sparrow. It is equivalent to oneworld Sapphire, including lounge access on eligible flights even when travelling in economy. The Gold match normally costs US$149 for eligible applicants in the Netherlands.

Flying Blue Silver members can apply for Silver Jay for US$49. That means oneworld Ruby: some priority benefits, but no general oneworld lounge access. Apply through Royal Jordanian’s official status match website, operated by StatusMatch.com.

Which status can you get?

Your existing status Royal Club tier oneworld tier Application fee
Flying Blue Silver Silver Jay Ruby US$49
Flying Blue Gold, Platinum or Ultimate Gold Sparrow Sapphire US$149
Miles & More Frequent Traveller Silver Jay Ruby US$49
Miles & More Senator or HON Circle Gold Sparrow Sapphire US$149

The official FAQ lists other eligible programmes, including Emirates Skywards, Etihad Guest and SAS EuroBonus. Your existing status determines the tier offered; you cannot freely choose between Silver and Gold. Fees are in US dollars, with any currency conversion charges from your payment card added separately.

The main benefit: lounge access with an economy ticket

Gold Sparrow may be useful if you already have KLM/Air France or Star Alliance status, but also have several oneworld trips planned. You do not have to fly Royal Jordanian to use the lounge benefit. British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Qatar Airways and Cathay Pacific are also oneworld members.

Your departing flight must be both operated by a oneworld airline and sold under a oneworld airline’s flight number. A codeshare operated by an airline outside the alliance does not automatically qualify. Show your boarding pass and digital Royal Club card. You may bring one guest who is also travelling on an eligible oneworld flight.

At Schiphol, this can give access to the oneworld lounge before an eligible departure. It is not a standalone lounge pass for KLM or Transavia flights. Sapphire also does not unlock every premium lounge: in Doha, an economy passenger with Sapphire uses the Qatar Airways Gold Lounge rather than Al Mourjan Business Lounge. Check your departure airport in the oneworld lounge finder and access policy.

Gold also brings business-class check-in, priority boarding and extra baggage under each airline’s fare and benefit rules. For example, the oneworld extra baggage benefit does not apply to British Airways Basic/Hand Baggage Only fares. Silver Jay includes business-class check-in and preferred seating where offered; it does not guarantee free seat selection or lounge access with every partner.

How to apply from the Netherlands

  1. Have a Royal Club account ready. Use your existing account or join through Royal Jordanian. Verify your email address and keep your membership number handy.
  2. Check that your existing status is eligible. Use the official FAQ’s table. For the airline match, you must reside in an eligible country and hold an identity document from an eligible country. The Netherlands is listed. A Dutch home address alone is not sufficient proof.
  3. Open the application page. Enter your first and last name, Royal Club account email address and membership number. Select Netherlands under Your Primary Country of Residence. Names must match your Royal Club account and supporting documents. Applicants must be at least eighteen.
  4. Provide proof of your existing status. The process asks for your other programme’s membership details and evidence such as a photo of your status card. An identity check may also be required. Temporary challenge status or status obtained through a chain of matches may be rejected.
  5. Check the offered tier and fee before paying. Applications are assessed, so payment does not guarantee approval. Read the current terms and privacy notice on the application website.
  6. Wait for the status to appear in Royal Club. The FAQ says an application decision normally follows within three days; the account update may take several more working days after approval. Do not assume the benefits will be available tomorrow. Your card is digital, not physical.

There is also a Card Match for certain cards issued in an eligible country: Visa Signature/Infinite credit cards, Mastercard World/World Elite credit cards and the specified American Express charge or travel credit cards. The terms list a US$49 fee. This does not make every Visa or Mastercard debit card eligible; check your specific card and the offered match during the application. The temporary hotel-to-Gold match for Gulf residents is a separate offer. Its 31 October 2026 deadline is not a general deadline for Dutch airline-status applicants.

Check where your flight miles will go

The match terms are explicit: if you use your Royal Club number for oneworld status benefits on a partner airline, the associated flight activity is credited to Royal Club. Once credited, those miles cannot be reversed or moved to another frequent-flyer programme. Weigh the lounge and other benefits against your preference to earn, for example, Avios elsewhere.

Keeping the status after twelve months

The match grants twelve months of status. After that, the ordinary Royal Club requirements apply. Paying for this match does not provide an ongoing renewal.

Tier to retain Requirement within twelve months Required Royal Jordanian flights
Silver Jay 12,000 tier miles or 12 segments At least 4 RJ flights
Gold Sparrow 30,000 tier miles or 26 segments At least 10 RJ flights

Eligible oneworld flights can contribute, depending on the fare and booking class. They do not replace the minimum RJ flights. Tier miles are for status qualification, separate from the balance used for award tickets. Award flights do not earn tier miles or qualifying segments, and certain short RJ sectors count as only half a segment. See the Royal Club terms for the detailed rules.

What if you do not fly enough?

Royal Club reviews your tier using qualifying activity over the previous twelve months. If you miss the retention requirement, your status can be downgraded. An automatic soft landing from matched Gold to Silver with another twelve months of status is not guaranteed. Plan around twelve months of Gold benefits unless you meet the subsequent requirements yourself. Losing Sapphire also means losing its general lounge benefit.

The match is most worth considering when you will actually use the benefits during that first year. If you almost exclusively fly KLM, oneworld status adds little directly; several oneworld economy trips can make Gold more useful. Upgrade vouchers are excluded from the status match. The offer can change or end, so check the current match terms before applying.
